TetherGold launches BNBChain to expand token gold application scenarios
Tether announced that its gold token TetherGold (XAU) has launched BNBChain, bringing this dominant tokenized gold asset to the broader crypto ecosystem. Each XAU corresponds to 1 ounce of physical gold (London Standard for Good Delivery), is stored in a Swiss treasury and is supported by 1:1 reserves through independent audits. Data shows that gold prices will rise by about 64% in 2025, the largest annual increase in 40 years, driving up market demand for safe-haven assets. During the same period, the market size of gold-backed stablecoin increased from approximately US$1.3 billion to over US$4 billion, of which XAU accounted for approximately 60% of the market. This deployment allows users to gain direct physical gold exposure in the BNBChain ecosystem without the need for traditional custody, premium and settlement processes. At the same time, Tether realizes the liquidity interoperability of XAU among more than 12 blockchains through the USDt0 cross-chain network, improving the efficiency of issuance, transfer and settlement. TetherCEO Paolo Ardoino said the move aims to integrate gold assets into the modern digital financial system, giving them instant settlement and global liquidity capabilities. BNBChain said that the integration will further strengthen its ecological layout in the real-world asset (RWA) field.
