According to TheBlock, as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) prepares to launch an innovation exemption program for tokenized assets, the U.S. House Financial Services Committee held a hearing on "Tokenization and the Future of Securities: Capital Markets Modernization" on March 25. Republican Representative Andy Barr said that securities tokenization is the general trend and the United States needs to lead the process while protecting investors. Some Democratic lawmakers have expressed concern that innovation exemptions may weaken core securities regulations. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said the agency will soon seek public comment on a range of issues related to future rulemaking, including a proposed innovation exemption that could serve as a regulatory sandbox for assets on the chain. In addition, as crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett reports, Paul Atkins said the long-awaited exemption for tokenization innovation could be available in the coming weeks.
