Foreign central banks have reduced their holdings of U.S. Treasuries to their lowest level since 2012
On April 1, it was reported that in order to support the country's economy and currency during the Iranian war, foreign central banks have reduced their holdings of U.S. Treasury bonds to the lowest level since 2012. Since February 25, the value of treasury bonds held by official agencies with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has fallen by $82 billion. Some central banks have intervened in foreign exchange markets to support their currencies. Such interventions often involve selling dollars in response to crises. Since February 27, the Turkish central bank alone has sold $22 billion worth of foreign government bonds. Analysis pointed out that supply shocks have caused tremendous pressure on central banks around the world.
