Sources say Anthropic is considering independently developing AI chips

On April 10, three sources said that artificial intelligence giant Anthropic is exploring the possibility of independently designing chips. The company and its competitors are grappling with a shortage of artificial intelligence chips that are critical to driving and developing more advanced artificial intelligence systems. People familiar with the matter said that Anthropic's plans are still in their early stages, and the company may eventually choose to buy artificial intelligence chips rather than design it itself. The company has not yet determined a specific design plan or formed a dedicated team to take charge of the project. Anthropic uses a variety of chips, including a tensor processing unit (TPU) designed by Google (GOOG.O) and chips from Amazon (AMZN.O), to develop and run its artificial intelligence model Claude.
