Trump: Doesn't care if Powell stays on board

On May 1, U.S. President Trump said that he would not care even if Powell remained as a director after his term as chairman of the Federal Reserve ended. Powell's term as chairman of the Federal Reserve will end on May 15, but his term as a director will not expire until 2028, and he said he intends to "continue to serve as a director for an undetermined period." On the other hand, Kevin Walsh is expected to receive full Senate approval before Powell's term ends, and Powell's continued stay in office could complicate Trump's efforts to reshape the Fed. Asked if he was prepared to take any action on Powell's decision to stay on board, Trump replied: "No, I don't care if he stays on board. I just want to make sure Kevin is able to take on this role."
