Canadian asset management giant AIMCo reveals it holds US$219 million in Strategy
AIMCo, one of Canada's largest institutional investment managers, disclosed in an April 30 regulatory filing that it holds a US$219 million interest in DeStrategy. This is one of the largest direct investments by a sovereign wealth fund in a crypto "middleware" agreement. AIMCo said the move is a strategic layout for the tokenization and automated liquidity supply of real-world assets (RWA). The Strategy platform provides institutional investors with revenue opportunities that meet KYC/AML standards, while its governance and equity structure allow them to benefit from transaction costs incurred by institutional capital inflows. Analysts believe that this is also AIMCo's defensive hedging against the backdrop of declining traditional fixed income returns. The investment is expected to serve as a catalyst for other Canadian and international pension funds. AIMCo manages approximately C$160 billion in assets, a move that shows that large trustees believe technical and regulatory risks in the DeFi space have become manageable. As AIMCo integrates its digital asset strategy into its main portfolio, it may trigger a chain reaction in the sovereign wealth field, pushing global capital management towards the transparency and efficiency of decentralized ledgers in the era of "programmable finance".
