a16zCrypto executives: The term stablecoin may become obsolete
Robert Hackett, head of the special project of a16zCrypto, wrote that the term "stablecoin" is gradually losing its adaptability to the times. stablecoins were originally born in the highly volatile stage of the crypto market, so they emphasize the "stable" characteristics. However, as technology evolves, stability has become the foundation and evolved into global financial infrastructure. The focus of the encryption industry has shifted from "whether it is stable" to "what else can be built", and stability has become the basic threshold rather than innovation itself. Therefore, the name "stablecoin" is more like a patch to old problems than a definition of the new financial system. In the future, the concept of stablecoin may eventually be diluted into broader expressions such as "digital dollars" and "assets on the chain", or even fully integrated into the bottom of the financial system, just as "electric lights" replace the concept of "electrical lighting".
