U.S. law firm Gerstein HarrowLLP applied for a restraining order to prevent Arbitrum DAO from transferring frozen Ethereum assets related to the Kelp attack. The law firm said that its clients had been sentenced in default in three cases against North Korea, with a cumulative compensation of approximately US$877 million (including punitive damages and interest), and claimed the right to claim compensation on the relevant assets. Previously, KelpDAO was attacked on April 18 and lost approximately US$292 million. It is believed to be related to the North Korean hacking group Lazarus Group. Subsequently, the Arbitrum Security Committee urgently froze approximately 30,766 Ethers (approximately US$73 million). The incident caused controversy. Some community members believe that if the restraining order takes effect, it will delay the return of funds from the victims and transfer North Korea-related debts to secondary victims. AaveLabs had previously proposed unfreezing funds and injecting compensation funds to restore damaged assets. It is worth noting that Gerstein Harrow has repeatedly filed claims against assets stolen by North Korean-related hackers and frozen by encryption platforms, including the 2023 HecoBridge incident. Industry analysts believe that this case may have an exemplary impact on the disposal of DAO assets and the definition of cross-judicial claims.
