On May 7, the Permanent Mission of Iran to the United Nations stated on May 6 local time that the only practical solution to the Strait of Hormuz issue is to permanently end the war, lift the maritime blockade, and resume normal traffic. The delegation also stated that the United States used "freedom of navigation" as an excuse to advance an incomplete and politically motivated draft resolution in the United Nations Security Council, with the purpose of advancing its political agenda and legalizing its illegal actions, rather than resolving the crisis.
