OpenAI launches new model for use by cybersecurity teams

On May 8, OpenAI announced on Thursday that a variant of its latest artificial intelligence model, GPT-5.5-Cyber, is being rolled out to a vetted cybersecurity team as a limited preview. A month earlier, its rival Anthropic attracted the attention of investors and government officials with a preview version of ClaudeMythos. OpenAI pointed out that the preview version of GPT-5.5-Cyber is not designed to significantly improve network security capabilities, but is trained to make it more flexible when handling security-related tasks. The company said that with this version, built specifically for the cybersecurity space, the reviewed team will more easily leverage OpenAI's latest models to handle workflows such as vulnerability identification and grading, patch verification, and malware analysis.
