"CopyFail" is a recently exposed Linux kernel local rights enhancement vulnerability that has affected a large number of mainstream Linux distributions since 2017. Researchers said that after gaining ordinary user rights, attackers can quickly obtain the highest Root rights using about 10 lines of Python code. The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has listed the vulnerability in the Exploited Vulnerability Directory (KEV). Since a large number of encryption infrastructure relies on Linux, including exchanges, verification nodes, mining pools, managed wallets and cloud trading systems, this vulnerability is attracting great attention from the encryption industry. Analysis points out that once an attacker exploits the vulnerability to breach the relevant server, he may further steal private keys, control authentication nodes, gain administrator privileges, or even launch a ransom attack. Although the vulnerability itself does not directly affect the blockchain protocol, after the underlying Linux system is compromised, it may still pose serious operational and financial risks to the encryption ecosystem. Industry insiders also warned that with the enhancement of AI-assisted vulnerability mining capabilities, similar underlying security issues may be discovered and weaponized more quickly in the future, and the risk of the encryption industry's reliance on server and operating system security is rising.
