Iranian media: Iran rejects Western ultimatum and focuses on new order in the Strait of Hormuz
On May 30, according to Iran's Mehr News Agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Baghai explicitly rejected the West's ultimatum remarks against Iran, declared that the U.S. maritime blockade was illegal from the beginning, and confirmed that since March 1, the Strait of Hormuz has been operating under Iran's special measures. Baghai flatly rejected the West's use of any "should" and "must" terms against Iran, saying that the Iranian state makes decisions based on the interests and rights of its own people. When talking about the U.S. maritime blockade, Baghai's legal characterization is very precise. He said the blockade was illegal from the beginning, violated the ceasefire and disrupted freedom of navigation. Bagai confirmed that since March 1, the Strait of Hormuz has been operating under Iran's special measures, and merchant ships are allowed to navigate only after coordination with Iranian authorities. He stressed the role of the coastal states Iran and Oman in managing the future of the waterway, saying that the two countries have taken a responsible position in safeguarding security and national interests while providing guarantees to the international community on safe navigation at sea. He concluded by noting that recent experience under special conditions could not be ignored and that whatever mechanism Iran and Oman established would be designed to serve both their national security and the safety of international shipping.
