XRPLedger's new proposal would stop a lightning attack that caused hundreds of millions of dollars in losses to DeFi
On May 31, recent DeFi attacks on protocols such as Thorchain, Drift, and KelpDAO relied on lightning loans, a mechanism that does not exist on XRPLedger. Because XRPL transactions are atomic and cannot contain composable intra-transaction calls, lightning loan attacks are structurally impossible on this network. As XRPL moves forward with AMM upgrades and the scale of its tokenized real-world assets continues to expand, institutional investors may weigh the pros and cons of this built-in anti-attack capability against Ethereum's deeper liquidity and a more mature DeFi ecosystem.
