According to CoinDesk, bipartisan members of the U.S. House of Representatives have proposed a bill to lead the establishment of a "federal cryptocurrency theft task force" by the Attorney General to coordinate the fight against cryptocurrency theft cases caused by fraud and hacking. The task force will coordinate multiple departments including the Department of Justice, FBI, Homeland Security and Treasury to serve as the main liaison and investigation coordination point for encryption theft cases. The sponsor stated that in the face of approximately $11 billion in annual theft and fraud losses, existing federal, state and local law enforcement are inconsistent in acceptance and coordination. The new mechanism aims to provide victims with a single federal docking window and support local law enforcement agencies on a voluntary basis.
