On June 12, Axios reported that Trump had repeatedly claimed that an agreement was close to being reached, but Tehran had not confirmed his latest statement. However, three sources briefed on the negotiations said key differences had been resolved during talks between Iranian officials and Qatar mediators on Wednesday. Negotiations continued in Tehran into late Wednesday night, as Qatar envoy Ali Savadi and Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Araghzi worked to bridge remaining differences between the United States and Iran. Sources said Qatar and Iran believed on Wednesday that they had reached an agreement text that the United States would also accept. Differences between the two sides have narrowed on three key issues: a mechanism for releasing Iran's frozen assets-the most important issue for Iran; arrangements for reopening the Strait of Hormuz during a 60-day ceasefire period; and how to negotiate Iran's nuclear program during the 60-day ceasefire period. Iranian officials told multiple countries on Thursday that the Tehran talks had produced an agreement in principle, but Supreme Leader Mujtaba still needed final approval, sources said.
