On June 17, the G7 issued a statement saying that we support and are willing to contribute to the implementation of the U.S. -Iran agreement. We reaffirm that the right to unrestricted movement and free of fees are the cornerstone of international trade. A defensive initiative led by France and the United Kingdom could play an important role in protecting merchant ships, placating shipping companies and helping confirm that all mines have been cleared, thereby promoting the restoration of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. We strongly support the development of a strong and comprehensive diplomatic follow-up agreement based on the memorandum of understanding reached by U.S. President Trump to bring peace and security to all countries in the Middle East. We emphasize that to achieve this goal, negotiations must be held to address Iran's threat in the region and wider, and ensure that it will never obtain nuclear weapons. We agree that such negotiations will benefit from the active participation of relevant regional and international partners, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). We reiterate that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons. We are committed to accelerating the diversification of energy supply routes to reduce global dependence on the Strait of Hormuz and increase our energy reserves. We welcome Canada to provide significant additional capacity to the global market in the coming years. (Jin Shi)
