G7 calls for joint efforts to crack down on North Korea's cryptocurrency theft and cybercrime
G7 leaders adopted a statement at the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, renewing their call for joint efforts to crack down on cryptocurrency theft and cybercrime in North Korea. United Nations security researchers have linked North Korea's cryptocurrency theft to funding for the country's weapons program. Previous attacks suspected to be related to North Korean hackers included a $285 million attack on DriftProtocol in April and a $36 million breach of HumanityProtocol in June. According to Chainalysis data, North Korean hackers stole at least US$2 billion in cryptocurrency in 2025, bringing their historical total theft to at least US$6.75 billion.
