Brazil's Central Bank includes crypto VASP into equivalent regulatory requirements for securities brokers

The Central Bank of Brazil issued Resolution No. 580/2026, classifying companies that provide virtual asset services and their dominant groups as Category 3 institutions, applying the same requirements as securities brokers, securities distributors and foreign exchange brokers. Starting from January 1, 2027, relevant institutions will comply with prudent requirements such as risk management rules, capital requirements and information disclosure policies. As of June 30, 2028, VASP will be included in Division 4 regardless of size and will not be able to enjoy the simplified compliance system of Division 5 low-risk institutions.
