Vitalik suggested that the AI two factions reach a compromise: agree in advance to initiate a pause if extreme situations occur

On July 11, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin issued an article discussing the controversy over AI superintelligence. He pointed out that there are currently two factions in the AI world: one faction believes that super intelligence will inevitably arrive before 2040 and must be controlled as soon as possible; the other faction believes that AI is just ordinary technology and that suspending is controlling humans. Vitalik said he was not sure which side was right and was open to slowing down or suspending, but opposed the argument that large AI companies promoted "open source was harmful" and believed it was essentially a concentration of power. Vitalik proposed a compromise: both parties could agree in advance to initiate an AI moratorium if certain extreme circumstances (such as a super pandemic, mass unemployment, etc.) do occur; if these circumstances do not occur, follow the other party's plan. He admitted that all responses are flawed and that humans can only choose between "imperfect" and "less perfect", but defensive technologies such as formal verification, cryptography, and security hardware are worth advancing in both worlds.
