Trump: Generic drugs zero tariff policy will be implemented for two years, then 100% and 200% will be collected

On July 22, U.S. President Trump stated that starting from August 1, 2026, all generic drugs imported into the United States will continue to enjoy zero-tariff treatment for two years; thereafter, the tariff will be raised to 100%(for a period of one year), and then rose to 200%. The move aims to promote the return of generic drug production to the United States and impose penalties on companies that fail to establish production facilities and equip related equipment within the prescribed time limit. The purpose of this policy is to protect the American people. Existing policies for patented drugs, branded drugs or innovative drugs, which have achieved significant results, will remain unchanged. Currently, various pharmaceutical facilities are being built on an unprecedented scale across the United States.
