On July 23, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that it would hold a roundtable meeting at its headquarters in Washington on September 17, 2026 to discuss issues related to the U.S. stock market's transition to 24-hour trading, including preparations to support overnight trading, Operation and resilience in the all-weather market, as well as the opportunities and challenges brought by expanding trading hours. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said in a statement,"We are moving towards a new day-and a new night for the U.S. stock market. As we expand to overnight trading, I am excited to look forward to the U.S. stock market integrating with markets that have achieved continuous trading, and to achieving a balance of round-the-clock trading while protecting investors and customers as a vital prerequisite." The roundtable will be open to the public, and the discussions will be broadcast online on the SEC's official website, followed by video playback. The roundtable marks a further step forward in the SEC's modernization of U.S. capital market infrastructure under Atkins 'tenure, following electronic delivery rules and the crypto regulatory framework.
