On August 1, the New York Post reported that a blockchain entrepreneur was suspected of embezzling more than $5 million from his company and deleted 194 expense records before abruptly leaving. Dionysios "Dean" Karakitsos, 57, is accused of hollowing out Bitquery Inc. (A company that tracks the value of cryptocurrencies and the flow of funds). The lawsuit has been filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court. Karakitsos is the co-founder of the company and has served as CEO, director and treasurer until 2025. He is accused of continuously transferring company funds to his personal account over the years. Karakitsos later operated a predictive market platform called Assymetrx. Bitquery filed a lawsuit in June, demanding that it return at least $5 million it allegedly stole. The company said it is seeking additional compensation to cover legal costs.
