Trump is reportedly considering cutting capital gains tax to boost midterm elections
On August 12, a senior economic adviser and a former administration official revealed that U.S. President Trump is seeking new policy commitments to show voters before the midterm elections, including a possible call to Congress to cut capital gains taxes and create tax exemptions for certain home sales. White House National Economic Council Director Hassett said on Tuesday that Trump hopes to introduce more incentives to win voters to support the Republican Party in the November election. Kudlow, who served as director of the National Economic Council during Trump's first term and is still a Trump ally, said that he recently discussed with Trump a "capital gains tax inflation indexation" plan, which adjusts the asset appreciation based on inflation before taxation. Kudlow also suggested exempting capital gains tax on sales of homes selling for $2 million and less, saying "the boss (Trump) is very interested in this."
