How to recover money from crypto ATM scams
Coinpaper reports that while it is difficult to recover funds from crypto-ATM scams, it is not impossible. Opportunities for recovery depend on the payment method, where the stolen cryptocurrency went, and how quickly victims report fraud. Crypto transactions are usually irreversible, and if Bitcoin, Ethereum, or other cryptocurrencies are sent directly to a wallet controlled by a fraudster, banks or payment processors cannot cancel the transaction. However, crypto exchanges can sometimes freeze stolen assets that reach their platforms, and law enforcement agencies can track down and confiscate cryptocurrencies. Arizona recently said that 35 victims of crypto ATM fraud have successfully recovered a full refund of $171,332 under state law. Victims should investigate their recovery options before assuming that crypto-payments are permanently lost.
