OpenAI and NVIDIA sign a 20-year data center lease with initial AI capacity of 4.25GW

OpenAI has announced a 20-year lease with NVIDIA with an initial AI capacity of 4.25 gigawatts and a lease guarantee of up to $105 billion. According to NVIDIA's August 17 announcement, OpenAI will use the data center in Ohio's Ports-Pike Technology Park, and SB Energy will be responsible for building and operating the infrastructure. NVIDIA will serve as the exclusive AI computing provider on the campus, providing its DSX AI Factory platform. The park is expected to provide the first batch of capacity in phases in 2028, and the project is expected to create approximately 35,000 construction jobs and provide approximately 2,500 permanent operating positions.
