Ethereum developers submit EIP-12188 proposal to reduce consensus layer block reservation windows

Ethereum developer Kevaundray submitted EIP-12188 proposal on GitHub, proposing to reduce consensus layer block retention windows to reduce node storage pressure. The proposal is currently in the public review stage and has received support from some Ethereum client developers. Developer dapplion expressed support for the idea, and lighthouse client contributor michaelsproul believes the adjustment will not cause significant problems to lighthouse's operation. The proposal points out that reducing the retention time of historical blocks at the consensus level can optimize the use of node resources. It was mentioned that pruning of historical data at the execution level may affect the provision of old block data by some long-running nodes, but developers believe that this will not threaten network security or the normal operation of nodes. Currently, EIP-12188 has not been merged.
