On August 18, it was reported that Chainalysis Government Solutions, a government business unit of blockchain analysis company Chainalysis, had filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) directly awarded a contract of approximately US$94.6 million to competitor TRMLabs, questioning that the procurement decision was "unreasonable and arbitrary." Chainalysis filed a protest with the U.S. Federal Claims Court on July 27, involving a one-year contract from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 to provide blockchain forensics software and support services to the Homeland Security Task Force. TRMLabs intervened in the case on July 28 to jointly defend the contract with the U.S. government. ICE previously only spent about 6 days conducting market research. After receiving responses from 8 companies, it determined that only TRMLabs had the required capabilities. Chainalysis's core claims are still sealed due to trade secrets. The court has scheduled oral arguments for September 2 and asked the government to make a decision by September 10 at the latest.
