US bond yields fall to boost risk appetite, Japanese stocks rose broadly
On August 20, the Nikkei 225 index rose sharply on Thursday, so measures taken by the United States to stabilize the bond market boosted investor sentiment and pushed funds back to risky assets. The Japanese stock market has a wide range of gains. Among the Nikkei 225 index stocks, 182 stocks have risen, 42 have fallen, and 1 stock has remained flat. Among the index components, the largest gainer was Sumitomo Metal Mining, up 10.76%, followed by Sumitomo Pharmaceuticals, up 8.48%. Kansai Electric Power rose 8.37%, the largest one-day gain since August 2024. Wataru Akiyama, equity strategist at Nomura Securities, said the decline in yields was undoubtedly the key factor driving the market up today. It is worth noting that individual stocks and sectors that previously lagged behind the gains in AI and semiconductor-related stocks have also seen significant gains. (Jin Shi)
