Trump says solving the US$40 trillion debt problem depends on growth denial instructs Besent to intervene in the bond market
On August 22, U.S. President Trump responded to the fact that the size of U.S. Treasury bonds exceeded US$40 trillion, saying that this problem has "existed for 35 years" and that the way to solve debt is "through growth", while the United States is currently achieving "very strong growth" will "easily solve" this problem. When asked if he had asked U.S. Treasury Secretary Basent to intervene in the bond market, Trump denied it, saying "not at all." Trump said that Bethent was a "very capable person" who wanted to take relevant action and said he had "good instincts about bonds and interest rates." When asked whether he would discuss further intervention with Bessent after U.S. bond yields rebounded, Trump responded: "The ultimate means of intervention is our military, and it will be done when it is time to be done."
