Strategy opposes MSCI's plan to remove it from global indices, saying digital asset treasury companies are targeted again
Strategy sent a letter to index producer MSCI objecting to the latter's proposal to exclude "non-operating companies" from the global investable market index, saying the proposal was misleading, flawed and discriminatory, essentially targeting digital asset treasury companies again. MSCI has previously argued that if a company is identified as a "non-operating company," it will no longer qualify for inclusion in the relevant global index. Strategy said MSCI had no precedent for basing Bitcoin on "non-operating assets" and that the classification was arbitrary and lacked explanation. The company stressed that it has classified bitcoin business as an operating segment and charged related gains and losses to operating expenses. Strategy said that the company has 1500 employees around the world and actively uses Bitcoin to create value for shareholders. If the proposal is adopted, it will not have a material impact on its business, but it will damage MSCI's credibility as a neutral index provider. Strategy currently holds 845,050 bitcoins worth approximately US$65.8 billion.
