Britain's FCA is considering relaxing the ban on financial forecasting markets

On September 7, the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has held discussions with a number of trading platforms on the possible relaxation of the ban on financial forecasting markets for retail investors that will be implemented in 2019. The FCA previously regarded forecast contracts linked to financial and some weather events as binary options and banned sales to retail investors since 2019. However, as British consumers increasingly turn to overseas platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket, the agency is considering relaxing restrictions, and the current public position still supports maintaining the ban.
