OpenAI responds to researcher's departure, claiming violations due to sensitive information
In response to an open letter issued by three former employees, Jasmine, Mikita and Tomek, the head of OpenAI research issued an official statement in response to the open letter. The company said that after a comprehensive investigation, it was confirmed that the three men violated clear sensitive information handling policies, and that the serious breach of trust found by internal investigations involved a broader scope and exceeded what was disclosed in the open letter. Therefore, it decided to terminate its employment relationship with them last week, and insisted on this decision. OpenAI specifically pointed out that this personnel adjustment was not due to targeted considerations to raise safety concerns for employees or publicly express their views. The company revealed that it conducts intense and critical safety and research discussions within it every day, actively encouraging employees to raise questions. At the same time, the company said it is tolerant of mistakes made in good faith and will not take dismissal measures because employees express safety concerns. In response to the security issues mentioned in the open letter, OpenAI said it has begun to sign a contract with a third-party security assessment agency, plans to announce specific details in the next few weeks, and promises to include external assessors into the security management system.
