Besent: Plans to seize about US$1 billion in crypto assets this week and comprehensively escalate its isolation against Iran
US media disclosed on October 9 that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said at the Newsmax NPolicy Summit in Washington that the Trump administration is upgrading its "extreme pressure" strategy on Iran to "absolute isolation" action. The strategy includes measures such as financial sanctions, maritime blockades, air transport restrictions and land corridor cuts, and aims to comprehensively curb Iran's ability to access international markets, transportation networks and financial resources. In an interview, Besent revealed that the U.S. government "may seize approximately US$1 billion worth of crypto assets this week," and pointed out that the location of the relevant assets has been locked and quarantine measures are being taken. He also emphasized that the United States is cooperating with the United Arab Emirates and Oman, and by coordinating with Pakistan, Turkey and other countries, it aims to comprehensively block Iranian oil exports and restrict international travel of its officials and regime related persons. At present, relevant reports have not yet clarified the specific currency, wallet address, enforcement agency and legal basis involved in this operation, and doubts remain as to whether the measure has actually been implemented.
