Analysis: Tether can permanently clear the blacklist USDT
X account @blockchainchick pointed out that since the deployment of the Ethereum network (2017), Tether's USDT contract has included the destrucyBlackFunds function. The operation process of this function is: first verify whether the target address has been marked as a blacklist, then read its account balance, forcibly clear the balance, deduct the corresponding amount from the total circulation, and trigger an event record, and this operation is irreversible. According to the account disclosure, the target address in the blacklist function is identified with "_evilUser", and only the multi-signature account held by the owner of Tether has call rights on the Ethereum and wavefield chain. It further explains that Tether can use this mechanism to cast equivalent USDT to specific addresses, but the overall net circulation remains stable. The U.S. Department of Justice disclosed this operating process in an asset forfeiture case in Massachusetts in March 2025, involving approximately US$9.016,612 million.
