Trump plans to recruit senior AI testing agency officials to the White House, and a 40-member team will evaluate top models
The Trump administration plans to make personnel changes to CAISSI, transfer three senior officials from the agency responsible for testing U.S. artificial intelligence models to the White House and have them report directly to White House science and technology policy director Michael Kratsios and National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross. According to people familiar with the matter, the relevant transfers have not yet been completed, and the identities of these three officials have not yet been made public. Previously, the government once considered moving the entire agency into the White House, but finally decided to adjust only some top officials. CAISSI is owned by NIST, a subsidiary of the U.S. Department of Commerce. It has approximately 40 employees and an annual budget of approximately US$15 million. Its responsibilities include model safety assessments. Since the establishment of the Biden administration, the agency has used three names in less than two years; in July this year, Chris Fall, the head of the agency, resigned only three months after taking office, and his successor has not yet been determined.
