A scammer lost over 60 BTC, worth approximately $4.8 million, in the Ledger theft incident.
According to Chainalysis, which revealed on October 16 that one victim of the Ledger hardware wallet breach suffered particularly severe losses: the individual was already engaged in fraud. Their holdings of over 60 BTC (approximately $4.8 million) originated from a task scam. In this scheme, participants were hired to artificially inflate sales and generate fake reviews for genuine products; once their accounts showed a "negative balance," they were instructed to front funds themselves to receive payment. On September 22, the scammers transferred the proceeds into three distinct Ledger addresses. By October 9, attackers drained all three addresses, consolidating the funds into a single wallet via one transaction—a wallet already flagged as holding stolen assets.
