According to CoinDesk, Bitcoin miners are currently facing severe cost pressures. Checkonchain's difficulty regression model shows that the average production cost of Bitcoin is approximately US$88,000, while Bitcoin is currently quoted at approximately US$69,200. The difference between the two is nearly US$19,000, which means that the average miner loses about 21% for every bitcoin dug out. Cost pressures have continued to build since Bitcoin fell below $70,000 from $126,000 in October last year, and the war in Iran further exacerbated this situation. Oil prices exceeding US$100 per barrel have directly pushed up the electricity costs of miners, especially with the greatest impact on the computing power of the world, which is about 8% to 10% dependent on markets sensitive to energy supplies in the Middle East. Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum on Saturday, threatening to attack Iranian power plants, adding a new layer of risk to miners. The difficulty of Bitcoin mining fell 7.76% on Saturday to 133.79T, the second largest decline in 2026. It is currently about 10% lower than the beginning of the year and well below the historical high of about 155T in November 2025. The computing power of the entire network has dropped to approximately 920EH/s, and the average block extraction time in the previous cycle has been extended to 12 minutes and 36 seconds. The power price is currently around US$33.3 per PH/s/day, close to the break-even point of most mining machines and not far from the historical low of US$28 set on February 23. When miners cannot cover the costs, they will be forced to sell bitcoins to maintain operations, further increasing market selling pressure against the backdrop of the current loss of 43% of bitcoin supply. Listed mining companies such as Marathon Digital and CipherMining are responding to difficulties by diversifying into AI and high-performance computing. The next difficulty adjustment is expected in early April and is expected to continue to decline according to CoinWarz data.
