Singapore Police: Tampered Ledger Wallets Result in $2.7 Million Loss for Users
On Wednesday, the Singapore Police Force issued a warning that it has received at least two reports since September 10 involving tampered Ledger hardware wallets, with total losses amounting to approximately S$3.5 million (roughly $2.7 million). Preliminary investigations indicate that some Ledger wallets purchased from local retail stores in Singapore contain malicious hardware components. The incident was first publicly disclosed on October 9, with the affected devices sold by authorized distributor CryptoBilis across Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Subsequently, former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpelès revealed that a spy device was discovered in a Ledger Flex unit he purchased at Singapore’s airport; other users have also reported anomalies in Ledger hardware wallets bought from local IT retailer Challenger.
