US media: Trump team is developing strategy for possible Iran peace talks
According to the AXIOS website, a U.S. official and a person familiar with the matter revealed that after three weeks of war, the Trump administration has begun preliminary discussions on the next stage and possible forms of peace talks with Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he was considering a "gradual end" to the war, but U.S. officials said the fighting was expected to last another two to three weeks. At the same time, Trump's advisers hope to begin preparing for diplomatic mediation. Sources revealed that Trump's envoys Kushner and Witkov are participating in discussions about potential diplomatic options. Any agreement to end the war must include reopening the Strait of Hormuz, resolving Iran's highly enriched uranium stockpile, and reaching a long-term agreement on Iran's nuclear program, ballistic missiles and support for proxies in the region. According to other sources, although Egypt, Qatar and the United Kingdom have all passed on information to the United States and Iran, there has been no direct contact between the United States and Iran in recent days. Egypt and Qatar have told the United States and Israel that Iran intends to negotiate, but on very tough terms, and Iran's demands include a ceasefire, guarantees of no future war and compensation.
