Google is close to finalizing a deal to provide more than $5 billion in funding for Anthropic's leased Texas data center
Google is close to reaching an agreement to provide financial support for a large Texas project by data center developer Nexus DataCenters worth more than $5 billion that will be leased to Anthropic when completed. Construction loans are expected to be finalized soon. The project covers an area of approximately 2800 acres and is expected to deliver approximately 500 MW of capacity as early as the end of 2026, with significant expansion in the future. Located close to major natural gas pipelines, Nexus plans to provide electricity directly from its own gas turbines rather than relying on the public power grid to avoid grid access queuing delays and reduce costs during peak hours. Google currently provides Anthropic with its customized TPU chips for large model training through GoogleCloud, and the two sides have a deep cloud computing partnership. Providing infrastructure financing for the data center leased by Anthropic is a further extension of this cooperation.
