The Ethereum Foundation issued a document clarifying the vision of L1 and L2 collaboration and clarifying the role positioning of each level

The Ethereum Foundation today released a systematic account of the evolution of the roles of L1 and L2. The core point of view points out that as the ecology matures, L2 's primary goal has shifted from "expanding Ethereum" to "providing differentiated functions, customized services and autonomous controllable areas", while expansion has relegated to a secondary position.<br /> The Foundation reconstructs the role positioning of L1 and L2 as follows:<br /> ·L1: As a permission-free and highly resilient global settlement layer, it undertakes shared status, liquidity and DeFi hub functions, and needs to continue to expand while maintaining censorship resistance, open source, privacy, and security.<br /> ·L2: While developing its own on-chain economy, it will extend the core attributes of Ethereum to a wider range of users and form a "full spectrum" ecosystem<br /> The foundation made it clear that L2, which has the highest degree of integration with L1, should pursue mechanisms such as synchronous composability, full interoperability, shared liquidity and Stage2. A large number of L2s with diversified business models and technical expertise will continue to play an important role in providing functions that L1 does not have.<br /> The Ethereum Foundation stated that it will continue to invest in technology to help L2 more smoothly extend L1 's core attributes and securely access cross-layer liquidity, while emphasizing that L2 needs to maintain transparency and verifiability of its security attributes.
