South Korea's $60 billion outflow of crypto assets in the second half of 2025, exchange earnings fell sharply by 38%
According to TheBlock, the Korea Financial Services Commission (FSC) released a report showing that in the second half of 2025, a total of approximately US$60 billion (90 trillion won) of crypto assets on South Korea's cryptocurrency exchanges flowed to overseas platforms and private wallets, an increase of 14%, regulators believe that this may be related to arbitrage activities during market fluctuations.
At the same time, although the number of local exchange users in South Korea increased by 3% to 11.1 million accounts and the size of deposits increased by 31% to 8.1 trillion won (approximately US$5.4 billion), the total operating profit of the 18 exchanges in the second half of 2025 was only 380.7 billion won (approximately US$253 million), a sharp drop of 38% from the first half of the year.
The total market value of South Korea's crypto market at the end of 2025 was approximately 87.2 trillion won (approximately US$58 billion), down 8% from the first half of the year. The average daily trading volume also fell 15% month-on-month to 5.4 trillion won (approximately US$3.6 billion). Regulators pointed out that the decline in the prices of major crypto assets at the end of the year was the main reason for the decline in trading volume and profitability.
