British sprinter CJUjah charged in connection with encryption fraud
According to British police, former World Athletics Championships 4×100-meter relay gold medalist and British sprinter CJUjah and nine other people were charged with suspected "conspiracy to defraud" involving a cryptocurrency fraud case. Police said the criminal gang committed telephone fraud on multiple victims by impersonating police and cryptocurrency company personnel, inducing them to leak key wallet security information including seedphrases, and then transferring the victims 'cryptographic assets, including one victim lost more than 300,000 pounds. The case was solved after a joint investigation by the Eastern Region Special Operations Service (ERSOU) across Kent, Essex and London. Ten suspects have appeared in court, of which Ujah was granted bail until May 28 for a further hearing. The 32-year-old Ujah won the gold medal in the 4x100m relay at the World Championships on behalf of the British team in 2017 and won the Diamond League championship in the same year. He was banned for 22 months in 2022 due to doping problems, and was later determined to be contaminated with supplements causing a false test. In addition to Ujah, another British sprinter, Brandon Mingeli, is also on the arrest list and is currently in custody pending trial.
