Before the US midterm elections, the Republican Party raised nearly US$1 billion, far exceeding that of the Democratic Party
On May 22, U.S. President Donald Trump and his Republican allies raised $939 million in campaign funds before the November midterm elections, more than three times the amount raised by the Democratic Party, providing strong support in their struggle to maintain control of Congress. The latest U.S. Federal Election Commission filing shows that although the political trend is favorable to the Democratic Party, its fundraising amount is only US$267 million. However, the party of an incumbent president usually loses its House seat in mid-term elections. The Republican Party currently controls the House with only a narrow margin and needs to retain 14 of the 18 swing districts identified in Cook's political report. Taking into account voter burnout, the Republican Party faces a more unfavorable situation.
