Trump says $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization fund" is a good idea despite Republican backlash
In an interview with NBC on June 7, Trump said he personally thought the fund was "a good idea" and hinted that some of the money might be used to compensate people convicted of the Capitol Hill riots. Despite Acting Attorney General Branch's previous promise that the idea was blown, Trump made clear he was trying to move forward with the plan, which could reignite tensions with Senate Republicans. The fund is part of a settlement between Trump and the IRS to compensate victims of politically motivated investigations, but congressional critics have dismissed it as a "slush fund" that benefits his political allies. Trump also claimed that the 2020 election was "rigged" and criticized California's slow vote count. Later, he denounced the host as "stupid" in an interview and terminated the interview early.
