SpaceX leases Colossus1 computing power to Anthropic after encountering technical problems
On June 13, according to foreign media reports, people familiar with the matter said that SpaceX(SPCX.O) decided to lease the entire capacity of the data center to Anthropic after encountering technical challenges while using the Memphis Colossus1 data center to develop and run the Grok artificial intelligence model. The company originally planned to use large-scale computing power to train its cutting-edge AI models through a cluster of three data center campuses, but encountered latency issues while connecting Colossus1 to two other sites more than 10 miles apart. Aging network infrastructure exacerbates this problem. In addition to latency issues, attempts to integrate Colossus1 with other facilities have also been affected by hardware differences. The facility is equipped with multiple generations of Nvidia chips, including Hopper and Blackwell, as some older accelerators. Colossus2 and Colossus3 are more uniformly built around NVIDIA Blackwell chips.
