Economist: If Iran deal is implemented, the worst period of inflation in the United States may be over
On June 16, economists warned that it might take some time for normal shipping in the Strait of Hormuz to resume and natural gas prices to fall back to pre-conflict levels. However, they said U.S. inflation accelerated in May to reach its fastest pace in more than three years, but the trend is likely to have peaked. "If we've learned one thing in the past three months, it's that predicting trends in the energy and oil markets is very difficult," said Andrew Hollenhorst, chief U.S. economist at Citigroup."But looking at the overall trend, I think everyone will agree that the current trend is downward." News of the interim deal between the United States and Iran sent oil prices down and boosted stocks. "The market has concluded that the agreement is complete, everything is going well, and we are basically going back to where we were close to pre-conflict status quo," said Stephen Stanley, chief U.S. economist at Santander American Capital Markets.
