Amazon is negotiating to sell its own artificial intelligence chips
On June 18, Amazon (AMZN.O) was in talks to sell its self-developed artificial intelligence chips to other companies 'data centers, a move marking a further expansion of its efforts to challenge Nvidia's dominance. Peter DeSantis, head of Amazon's artificial intelligence business, said: "We believe that artificial intelligence infrastructure is evolving rapidly. We are always looking for ways to serve more customers." Amazon launched the artificial intelligence acceleration chip Trainium in 2020. The chip has attracted some heavyweight customers, including OpenAI, Anthropic and Uber, who use the hardware through Amazon Cloud Services (AWS). Amazon said in April that Trainium had received more than $225 billion in revenue commitments. In the same month, CEO Andy Jasi said it was "entirely possible" for Amazon to sell an entire cabinet of chip equipment to a third party. This is also part of the company's strategy to reposition itself around artificial intelligence. De Santis said third-generation Trainium chips that began shipping earlier this year have been "basically sold out." Amazon said its fourth-generation Trainium chips expected to be launched next year have attracted strong demand.
