Texas brothers held a Minzhou family at gunpoint and stole $8 million in crypto assets in eight hours or face 20 years in prison
On June 20, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, brothers Isia Garcia, 25, and Raymond Garcia, 24, pleaded guilty in federal court in Minneapolis on Thursday, admitting to traveling from Texas on September 19, 2025. In Grant, Minnesota, they broke into a home at gunpoint, tied the victim and his family with a cable tie, and coerced them to surrender their cryptocurrency account rights. Isia then escorted a victim and drove him to the family's vacation cabin in northern Minzhou, forcing him to remove additional encrypted storage devices and complete the transfer. The entire crime lasted for more than 8 hours, and a total of more than 8 million US dollars in encryption assets were stolen. In the end, the victim's son called 911 and the brothers fled the scene, but investigators targeted the suspect through items left in the house and captured him near Houston. The two men pleaded guilty to using firearms to threaten victims and have agreed to refund more than $8 million in stolen money. They face up to 20 years in federal prison for each robbery charge, with an undetermined sentencing date.
