Crypto super PAC funds pour into 2026 primary election Blackwashing controversy continues to ferment
According to Forbes, in the 2026 U.S. congressional primary election, Fairshake's Democratic Party PAC ProtectProgress, supported by Coinbase, Ripple and Andreessen Horowitz, intervened on a large scale in multiple black constituency primaries. The PAC invested more than $4.9 million in Maryland candidate Adrian Boafo, helped Christian Menefee defeat anti-encryption congressman Al Green in Texas (spending more than $5 million), and invested about $4 million in Georgia to help Jasmine Clark win.
None of the relevant campaign advertisements mentioned the background of the cryptocurrency industry. Journalist Joy Reid characterized this operation as Blackwashing-that is, transferring encryption industry funds to black constituencies in the name of progress and deliberately concealing the identity of the donor.
Analysts point out that the core logic of the network is not based on race, but rather to nurture supporters and suppress critics, with the ultimate goal of influencing the legislative direction of the pending Digital Asset Market Clarity Act.
